” A WHALER” gets an incomplete grade in test

by admin on July 5th, 2010

Even the 1100 foot A WHALER had a tough time in the rough Gulf waters kicked up by the remnants of Hurricane Alex. Results were inconclusive on whether it will be able to play a role in skimming up oil from the Macondo oil spill off the Louisiana coast. Both Taiwan Maritime, the owner of the ship, and the U.S. coast guard said more test will be needed this week to see whether or not the giant ship will perform as advertisied and clean up millions of gallons of oil a day. Most other skimmer operations at the Deep Water Horizon sight remain canceled as well, and many skimming operations closer to shore were also curtailed by lingering bad weather and a a new low forming off Morgan City louisiana.

Her’s an aerial flyover of the ship by the Coast Guard.
