Biloxi Mississippi sees heavy oil

by admin on June 30th, 2010

MDEQ and MDR are reporting more than a ton of oil was removed from Biloxi beaches yesterday as surf from Hurricane Alex sent high tides and wave action crashing into the Gulf coast. Oil tar ball and patties washed ashore in Ocean Springs as well, where they temporarily shut down Beach Boulevard due to oil and water over topping the roadway. The Mississippi DMR has issued more fishing closures and reminds fishermen to pick up crab traps in closed areas as they may interfere with cleanup work. Any fish or other marine life harvested from closed areas will be seized. A map of areas open to fishing in the Mississippi sound can be found below.
