Oil in Mississippi

by admin on June 7th, 2010

Haley Barbour who has been so nonchalant about the spill at every turn as to have some wondering if he might be overmedicated, was on TV Sunday telling the world that Mississippi beaches have seen virtually no oil, while over in Hancock county, cleanup crews were picking up “melted tootsie roll” tarballs off the beaches in Waveland and Bay Saint Louis. We hope the Governor will become some what more engaged and enraged when he sees the massive hit that our state is about to take from this spill, but pandering to Fox news is what the ole fox is good at it, so far be it from me to deny him the opportunity. This part of the state is used to having the folks up in Jackson ignore us and I’m sure we’ll get by fine this time.

Barbour is the best most competent governor in the usa. He will get the job done and not have a breakdown while doing it

I tend to agree with you, the Governor despite his faults is efficient and a pragmatist. However downplaying this disaster serves neither Barbour’s interests nor the Mississippi gulf coasts in the long run. I live here in Pass Christian and walking the beach in Bay Saint Louis while men in protective gear clean up around you, and you explain to your three year old daughter about dead turtles, makes me grumpy and unhappy espescially when the Governor is telling the world “move along, nothing to see here, just a vast media conspiracy to scare away tourists.”

I am a local resident that is skilled in many different areas that would benefit the clean up. I have put in resumes to no avail and still not one reply!! Just curious I thought we were only hiring locals why are all these people asking for jobs with out of state area codes? No harm ment just really need a job and have already heard of many out of staters working in mississippi.

I recently was laid off by “P2S” due to a loss in contract. At one time we had crews from Key West through Texas. I worked as a foreman for four months. I also have my 40 hr. Hazwoper course as well as my 8hr. PSE safety course. I’ve lived on the Gulf Coast all my life and enjoyed the work. Please feel free to email me or call at any time if any positions become available. Thanks.

I am a concerned citizen, and i am wondering why no gulf states are using any sandcleaning technology on the beaches yet?????? I have seen some amazing technology from Canada that could clean the missisippi beaches continuously without having to fill up your landfills. Picking up oily tarballs and taking them to landfill is not really solving the problem. I can put you through to a company that can help your state have beautiful clean beaches again, and clean the sand with proven technology that has worked for several years…..if anyone wants the info contact me thanks and goodluck!

if you want the beaches clean, you need to process the sand directly on the beach not, just pick up visible tarballs and send to landfill, don’t get me wrong it helps, but filling landfills will cause you more problems in the future. The technology is available right now! also, oil will be washing up on shore for a long time from this tragic spill, your best solution is sand cleaning on the beach no waste/ garbage. contact me for more info, and hopefully your politicians listen!
