St. Bernard recruiting vessels for Skim

by admin on May 30th, 2010

Nola.com ran the following press release for St. Bernard Parish officials:

“St. Bernard Parish officials are looking for commercial fishers with vessels for a possible oil-skimming operation.
Vessels should meet the following specifications: Large V-bottom boats capable of running outside of the Chandeleur Islands (20 miles into the Gulf from the Chandeleurs), with a minimum of 300 horsepower, steel or aluminum, at least 30 feet long.
These vessels will be used as part of a skimming operation, to collect oil and transfer it to a barge.
The parish said the flotilla is being organized as a precautionary measure and it doesn’t necessarily mean there is oil in the area.
Interested boat operators should email vessel specifications, including boat name and registration, to John Rahaim at jrahaim@sbpg.net.”
